NEW YORK - On April 18, 2004, ten-year-old Jacob McLachlan tripped and fell over a box left on the floor of a local gas station. A glass bottle in Jacob's hand shattered on the floor and stabbed into his hand, severing a tendon. The damage require reattachment surgery, leaving Jacob with permanent weakness in his dominant left hand, with tingling and numbness. An Orange County jury found the gas station 100 percent responsible for causing the fall and awarded Jacob significant compensation for his injury. The gas station's attorneys appealed the verdict, calling it "excessive". On June 17 of this year, the appeals court disagreed, stating that the jury's verdict was "not excessive". "We are pleased with the court's ruling and are happy to see our client get the compensation he deserves for his injuries", said Gregory Sobo, of Sobo & Sobo.
