An accident in the Bronx has resulted in the death of one man. According to New York police, the accident occurred when a 28-year-old man was struck by a white truck while the truck was trying to make a left hand turn. After the fatal accident occurred, the driver of the truck is alleged to have left the scene.
The man lay on the ground bleeding until rescue personnel arrived. He was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Police have stated that the accident occurred within a few blocks of the man’s home.
Meanwhile, the driver of the truck has yet to be identified. Police say that they are unsure at this time whether the driver of the truck knew that he had hit the pedestrian. However, police state that they will continue their search for the driver.
There are a wide range of reasons for the driver of a vehicle to leave the scene of a fatal accident, and none of them are good. Often, the driver simply fears being criminally charged. If a motorist negligently fails to yield to pedestrians as they cross a street, they may be found liable for any injuries or death that results. In the case of a fatal accident, the victim’s family can seek damages for the loss of their loved one by means of a New York wrongful death lawsuit. Although any damages ultimately awarded will never be adequate enough to replace the loss of human life, this recovery may be able to assist the family in seeking the help they need to properly cope with the financial aspects of an unfortunate tragedy.
