Police are investigating a serious crash near Berkshire that sent several people, including four children, to hospital. The car accident happened on I-90 on July 6. New York police have not made any arrests or filed any charges so far in this case.
Preliminary reports suggest the 37-year-old female driver of the minivan was traveling west when she abruptly lost control of her vehicle. The vehicle apparently rolled several times before landing in the median. All six individuals in the vehicle were injured.
A 50-year-old woman was rushed to hospital with head and internal injuries described as severe. The other passengers, all children, suffered injuries medical personnel determined to be non life-threatening. One of the children was airlifted to a local hospital with a fractured leg. The investigation into this accident is ongoing, as there seems to be no reason for the woman to have lost control of her vehicle. Police have not speculated as to whether speed and/or intoxication were factors in this crash.
This car accident could have been a lot worse than it was, but that is n reason to celebrate, particularly not for the children injured in the crash. As the police investigation continues, the woman at the wheel may or may not be found criminally responsible for this accident, but New York law states that a driver of a vehicle is inherently responsible for the safety of her passengers. With this in mind, the adult guardians of the four children, as well as the 50-year-old injured passenger, may wish to file personal injury suits against the driver.
