Car accident in New York sends 4 to hospital

A taxi driver is in serious condition along with three other people following a crash in Manhattan on Sept. 5, according to local police. The New York fire department responded to the car accident after a scaffolding was brought down by the impact. No charges have yet been filed in connection with this case.

The first in a series of crashes occurred when a New York taxi struck an SUV driven by an off-duty police officer. That impact forced the SUV onto the sidewalk where it struck some scaffolding that had been erected on the side of a building. The taxi driver and his passenger were both injured, as was the officer in the SUV.

A fourth person, a pedestrian, was also injured when part of the scaffolding collapsed onto the sidewalk. Thankfully, three of the four people involved only suffered injuries described by arriving medical personnel as “minor” — however, the cab driver was seriously hurt and was rushed to hospital. Police have not yet determined the cause of the crash, and have not filed charges against the taxi driver who seems to have precipitated the accident.

This car accident was thankfully not as severe as it could have been, but the responsibility for the crash will still have to be placed somewhere according to New York traffic laws. The most obvious candidate seems to be the taxi driver, though the investigation is still underway. Should any of the other injured parties in this accident show signs of their injuries worsening or causing long-term issues, they will be in a position to file a personal injury law suit against the driver in a New York civil court.
