A horrifying accident has left a 5-year-old child dead on Sept. 26, according to local law enforcement. This tragic, fatal accident happened in the New York borough of Brooklyn in the mid-afternoon. New York police are still investigating the accident, and no charges have been filed so far.
According to police records, the 5-year-old girl was walking with her father and older sister along a New York side walk when an SUV mounted the curb and struck the girl head-on. The elder sister and father were unharmed in the incident. However, the little girl was critically injured and was rushed to the hospital by arriving medical personnel.
The girl suffered cardiac arrest on the way to the hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival. The driver of the SUV remained at the scene as paramedics performed CPR and removed the child for treatment. It is unknown at this time whether criminal charges will be filed against the driver, or if any external factors like alcohol or high speed contributed to this devastating tragedy. The driver is not in police custody as of this writing.
The death of a child is almost too horrible to consider, but the sad reality is this fatal accident has taken a little girl from her family. While the New York police investigation may eventually determine the SUV driver to be criminally at fault for the accident, and while the driver will then face legal repercussions, it will not bring that child back to her family. Nor, unfortunately, will a wrongful death law suit, but perhaps filing such a suit will bring closure to the family and help them with the grieving process.
