Car accident in New York leaves 1 dead, 3 injured

A catastrophic crash has left one man dead and three other people with serious injuries, according to local law enforcement officials. New York police responded to the car accident on the morning of Nov. 24. No arrests have yet been made in association with this accident, and an investigation into the particulars of the crash is ongoing at the time of this writing.

Police indicate a vehicle had stalled on the side of the road when two men stopped to investigate. While they were looking over the car they were struck by another vehicle exiting the freeway. A 47-year-old man was thrown over the guard rail where he fell to a lower section of roadway. Arriving medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene of the accident.

The 22-year-old man who had been inspecting the car alongside him was also seriously injured, prompting him to be rushed to a local hospital. The driver of the second vehicle, along with a 15-year-old passenger, also suffered injuries and were taken to hospital. Police have not filed any formal charges as of yet, and they have also not speculated as to whether speed or intoxication were factors in this crash.

The New York police investigation should reveal more information about this car accident as time progresses. Should the driver of the second vehicle be found to have been reckless, negligent or intoxicated, he will likely face criminal charges in association with the crash. A guilty verdict associated with any charges could be used to bolster a civil personal injury or wrongful death suit filed by the injured parties or the deceased victim’s next-of-kin, respectively.
