New York car accident leaves 2 dead, 3 injured

A multiple vehicle car crash in the Bronx has resulted in two fatalities and a further three people rushed to hospital, according to law enforcement and first responders. New York police responded to the car accident around 7 a.m. on the morning of Nov. 9. The crash is still under investigation by authorities.

According to police reports, the accident was precipitated by an SUV driver losing control of his vehicle after striking a guardrail. The SUV careened off the rail and into oncoming traffic, where it struck a cab, which in turn struck a third vehicle. Both occupants of the cab, a 51-year-old and 54-year-old respectively, were killed in the impact and pronounced dead at the scene by arriving medical personnel.

One other person was seriously injured and two more had minor injuries, though there is no word as to which vehicles they were occupying at the time of the accident. The driver of the SUV was hospitalized, as was the driver of the third vehicle. Police have not speculated as to whether or not alcohol or high speed were factors in this accident, but the investigation is still underway as of this writing.

The particulars of this car accident seem to point to the first driver as being culpable for the crash, given it was his vehicle that crossed the center line. If New York police determine the man was in any way negligent in the operation of his vehicle, he could face criminal charges related to this accident. The injured parties and next-of-kin of the deceased victims may also wish to file suits against the driver found responsible in a civil court setting.
