Been Injured? We’re Passionate About Helping Accident Victims

One man dead following car accident in New York

A car crash in Brooklyn has left a local man dead, according to recent reports. New York police have reported that the driver deemed responsible for the car accident is currently in custody. Police have not commented on whether the man has been formally charged at this time, as their investigation is ongoing as of this report.

According to the report, a 60-year-old man was traveling north in the early morning of April 8 and was attempting to negotiate a left-hand turn. At that moment, his vehicle was struck by another car being driven by a 25-year-old man. The 60-year-old man’s vehicle traveled further up the road, causing damage to three unoccupied parked cars before coming to a rest.

The 25-year-old man’s car continued on as well, striking a telephone pole. The 60-year-old was rushed to a local hospital with severe injuries, where he was later pronounced dead. The other driver was also injured in the crash and was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released into police custody. Police have not confirmed whether alcohol or reckless driving were factors in this tragic accident, and so far no charges appear to have been filed.

New York police may eventually choose to pursue criminal charges against the younger driver who seems to have been responsible for causing the car accident. However, even if they do not, the family of the deceased victim will be entitled under state law to file a wrongful death suit against the younger driver. Such a suit is civil in nature and is not reliant upon a criminal trial to be filed.
