A fatal accident in the Bronx is currently under investigation by law enforcement, according to local news sources. New York police are probing the car accident that took the life of a 26-year-old woman on the evening of April 28. So far, they have not filed any formal charges against the driver involved in the single-car crash.
Reports indicate that police found the couple unresponsive and unconscious in a wrecked vehicle around 11:20 in the evening. Both the driver, a 34-year-old man, and his passenger were rushed to a local hospital with serious trauma to their heads and upper bodies. The woman was pronounced dead a short time later, while the man is said to have been in stable condition at the time of this report.
It appears as though the vehicle left the road and overturned, striking a parked car and a tree before coming to rest. Thankfully the parked car was unoccupied and no one else seems to have been injured in the crash. Police have not speculated as to whether intoxication or speed were possible factors in the crash, but it is likely that a routine toxicology scan will be conducted to rule out alcohol or drugs on the part of the driver. The investigation is ongoing.
This car accident is still largely a mystery to New York officials, so the continued investigation is a necessary step in determining where the fault for the accident lies. If it is determined that the driver’s actions in any way contributed to the accident, he could face criminal charges related to the subsequent fatality. Additionally, the family of the victim could choose to press additional civil charges in the form of a wrongful death lawsuit.
