Been Injured? We’re Passionate About Helping Accident Victims

1 child dead in fatal accident in New York

A terrible tragedy befell a Bronx school on the afternoon of October 24, when a vehicle jumped a curb and struck a group of people head-on. The fatal accident left one 8-year-old girl dead and nine other individuals with various injuries. New York police are still in the process of determining what caused the accident, but so far, they have not filed charges against the driver involved.

The accident report claims that a 55-year-old woman was in the process of reversing in front of the school, just after the final bell of the day, when she accelerated backward into a crowd of people. Among those injured were three parents of attending students, one staff member and at least two students.  A surveillance video caught the accident on tape.

The 8-year-old female student who was hit was assisted by onlookers on the scene and later by arriving medical personnel, but she later passed away at a local hospital. The other nine individuals injured in the accident were listed as being in stable condition as of this report. Reportedly, the driver stayed at the scene to cooperate with police, and no charges have yet been filed.

New York police will continue to investigate this tragic fatal accident until a suitable cause has been uncovered. If it turns out the driver was somehow negligent or otherwise at fault for the crash, she could face criminal charges related to the injuries and fatality she allegedly caused. The family of the deceased girl will be entitled to file a wrongful death suit against her regardless of the outcome of the criminal investigation, likely using the surveillance video as supplementary evidence. The injured parties will be able to file personal injury suits as well.
