A man is in critical condition following a bizarre car crash in Queens, according to local sources. The New York man was struck by a parked car after another vehicle hit it around 7 p.m. on Oct. 18. So far, police have not filed charges in relation to this car accident, but the investigation is still underway.
According to witnesses, a vehicle was pulling out of a nearby parking lot when the driver apparently lost control of the car. The vehicle vaulted forward and struck a parked car with sufficient force to launch the second vehicle “like a missile,” witnesses said. The car struck a pedestrian, who is as yet unidentified.
The vehicle landed on top of the victim, whose head was seen striking the pavement. He was rushed to a local hospital by paramedics, where he is said to still be in critical condition. The driver thought responsible for the crash claimed his brakes failed, but attending police officers tested the vehicle and were able to successfully deploy the brakes. However, the driver has not yet been charged, and police are continuing to piece together exactly what occurred.
If New York authorities come up with sufficient evidence to suggest the man driving the initial car was responsible for the car accident, he could face criminal charges both for the injury he caused and perhaps even for lying to police. In the meantime, the injured man could file a personal injury lawsuit in a civil court. If the worst was to happen, his family would be entitled to file for wrongful death.
