2 people face serious injuries following car accident in New York

A local sheriff’s office is still investigating a serious crash that injured two men on the early evening of Nov. 18. New York authorities are still in the process of determining exactly how the car accident happened, and for the moment, no charges have been filed. The investigation is still underway as of this report.

Police responded around just after 5 p.m. on the evening in question to discover that a vehicle operated by a 54-year-old man had, for some reason, crossed the center line into the oncoming lane. His vehicle had struck another vehicle, operated by a 43-year-old man, head-on. The resulting crash was serious enough to close the road for several hours.

The 43-year-old was airlifted to a local hospital with injuries described as critical. The other driver was also taken to a hospital with serious injuries. So far, police have not speculated as to why the man had crossed the center line, but it does not appear that they have ruled out recklessness, unsafe speed or intoxication at this time. At this time, no one has been charged, and the investigation has not reached a satisfying conclusion.

If it can be proved that the 54-year-old driver was in some way culpable for the car accident, either by accident or design, New York authorities may be inclined to press criminal charges. However, even if a guilty verdict is not reached, the other man is entitled under state law to file a personal injury suit against him in a civil court. If enough evidence exists to suggest wrongdoing, the court may rule to pay damages in his favor.
