Man loses leg in serious New York car accident

A UPS driver suffered a critical injury on the morning of April 6, according to local sources. The man was badly hurt in a car accident in Staten Island, New York, when he was pinned to his vehicle by an out-of-control car. The man lost a leg in the incident, but, for the moment, police have not filed any formal charges against the driver involved.

According to witness reports, the 40-year-old man was unloading packages from his work vehicle when the accident occurred. A vehicle driven by an unidentified man apparently swerved to avoid a pedestrian, causing him to crash his vehicle into the rear of the UPS truck. The UPS employee was crushed between the two vehicles.

The UPS worker was rushed to a local hospital with serious injuries, including one severed leg. His exact condition is unknown as of this writing, but his employers have reported that he is expected to pull through. Police did not charge the other driver involved in the accident, although they have not indicated whether this is a permanent decision or whether the investigation will continue.

Even if no formal charges are brought against the driver who precipitated the car accident, it may still be possible for the injured man to seek legal action against him. A personal injury lawsuit would require evidence that the driver was behaving in a negligent or reckless manner at the time of the accident. If such evidence can be presented in a New York civil court, financial compensation may be awarded.
