4 hurt following car accident in New York

Four people were injured after a taxi cab reportedly struck a hot dog stand on the Upper West Side on the afternoon of May 9, according to local reports. New York police responded to the car accident that was reportedly caused by a hit-and-run driver. Thankfully, no one was killed in the incident, but police continue to search for the driver who left the scene.

According to the accident report, a taxi that had stopped to pick up a fare was rear-ended by a black sedan. The force of the impact caused the cab to slam into a Halal hot dog stand, which then flew 20 feet into the side of a van. The driver who rear-ended the cab apparently fled the scene at high speed. Witnesses say the driver was talking on a cell phone and speeding when the accident occurred.

A 39-year-old woman was among the injured. She was rushed to a local hospital with serious injuries that reportedly included a partially amputated arm, but she is expected to survive. Three other people, including a man in a wheelchair, were also injured in the crash. Police are asking for the support of the community in bringing the driver believed to be responsible for the accident to justice.

When New York police apprehend the driver responsible for the car accident, that individual will likely face serious criminal charges. However, even if no charges are filed, the injured parties are still entitled under state law to file personal injury suits against that individual in a civil court. Considering the extent of the injuries suffered, as well as the fact that the driver left the scene, such cases may stand a good chance of succeeding in court.
