One man was tragically killed in the early morning of Oct. 8 after his vehicle was hit by a tractor-trailer, according to police. New York State Police responded to the car accident that claimed the life of a 24-year-old man. Police believe weather conditions may have played a role in the accident, but they are still investigating at this time.
According to the accident report, the victim was traveling westbound on Interstate 90 at approximately 6:00 a.m. when the accident occurred. The vehicle reportedly spun out on pavement rendered wet by rainfall, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The vehicle then stopped in the middle of the road.
At this point, a tractor-trailer that had been behind the car struck the vehicle with enough force to send it into the median. The 24-year-old driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel. The 60-year-old driver of the tractor-trailer was reportedly unharmed in the crash.
New York police will still have investigating to do in order to determine the series of events that led up to the car accident. State law requires all drivers to exercise additional caution in inclement weather, and this goes both for the driver of the car and the driver of the tractor-trailer involved in the car accident. It may be possible for the family of the deceased man to file a wrongful death charge against the other driver if it can be proven that he had adequate time to slow down and avoid the crash, or if he was traveling faster than was safe in the given conditions.
