I became a lawyer to help people. I was taught, growing up, that the only thing in our lives that we truly possess is our honor. We should always exemplify ourselves to be the best we can be, but similarly use our skills and expertise to assist others who need it.
The most important part of being an attorney, which I think many people forget, is that we are representatives for people. Nobody has ever called an attorney on the best day of their life. We meet people when they are most vulnerable and at their weakest, and we have a duty to get them in a better position than when they first came into the office.
I grew up in a suburb of Albany, and my mother worked for the state government. I followed the news regularly, and often visited the state capital building. In middle school I participated in a youth court program, assisting minors who pled guilty to misdemeanor crimes. It was my first real opening to the court system, and I learned what it took, and meant, to help others.
With teamwork. I work with other attorneys, the great support staff, and the clients themselves. We are all working together to achieve the best possible outcome in every case.
