Suffolk County was the site of unimaginable tragedy on July 4, according to local sources. New York police responded to a motor vehicle accident around 10:45 p.m. to discover that a man and his parents had been tragically killed, along with another motorist. A woman and an 11-month-old infant were also injured in the crash, which is still under investigation at this time.
According to the accident report, it appears the 25-year-old driver of a pickup truck somehow lost control of his vehicle after being witnessed driving erratically on Yaphank-Middle Island Road. His vehicle collided with another car being driven by a man. He, along with his elderly parents who were visiting him from India, were all killed immediately.
The man’s wife was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition, and the baby was also injured and taken in for treatment. The driver of the pickup truck was reported dead at the scene of the accident. Police are still trying to piece together what caused the man to lose control of his vehicle, but they have reportedly not ruled out intoxication, speeding or negligence as possible causes for the tragic, fatal crash.
If it is determined by New York authorities that the man driving the pickup truck was meaningfully responsible for the motor vehicle accident, no criminal charges will be able to be filed considering the man died in the crash. However, the family of the other victims will be entitled to file wrongful death suits on their behalves, and personal injury suits on behalf of the injured woman and child can be filed against the at-fault driver’s estate. Successfully filed suits can result in monetary damages to help cover medical costs and end-of-life expenses,
